Straight answers for Egyptian and expatriate families: what the class times mean locally, how a foreign qualification is used here, who teaches, and what the fee covers.
Twelve years of education is compulsory under Law No. 169 of 2025, and the duty is written for parents of Egyptian children and enforced through the governorates. A home-study route exists inside the national system. Because the position for a foreign child is not set out in the same way, put your family's situation to the Ministry of Education or an Egyptian education lawyer before you enrol anywhere.
Egypt sits three and a half hours behind the published India timetable in winter and two and a half in summer, which puts Nursery to Grade 9 across the local morning. Grades 10 to 12 run on the morning batch only, starting around 06:30 in winter and 07:30 in summer and finishing by about 10:00. Get the exact slot for your child's grade confirmed before you pay anything.
Through an equivalence process, not automatically. A qualification earned outside the Egyptian system is assessed by the Egyptian authorities before a local university will act on it, and the requirements change by certificate and by year. Ask the universities your child may actually apply to what they need, in writing, while there is still time to choose subjects around the answer.
The timetable follows the Indian academic week, which does not line up with the Friday and Saturday weekend most of Egypt keeps. That changes which days your child is in class and which days the family is together, and parents usually notice it in the second week rather than the first. Ask for your grade's teaching days at the counselling call and plan the week around the answer.
Households whose schooling cannot depend on a nearby gate. That covers a family posted to Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh or Port Said with no international school in reach, one that arrived mid-year, one planning a return to India or a move on, and a student whose day needs to be shorter. A counselling call settles quickly whether it fits.
Both exist and they say different things. This page covers the whole country and the pathways open anywhere in it. The Cairo page goes into local class times, the districts families enrol from and the questions the capital raises specifically. Read this one to choose a pathway, then that one if you live in or around Cairo.
Subject teachers take every timetabled period, and on the Cambridge pathway they hold Cambridge certification for the syllabus they teach. Lessons are taught live rather than supervised, with an assistant subject teacher alongside the class teacher. Ask at the counselling call who will teach your child's core subjects, then sit in on a demo class and watch them work.
Through a learning kit sent to the student and subject material issued as downloadable content books, alongside the live teaching. Science at Grades 10 to 12 carries practical components that vary by board and by examination route, so the arrangements for your child's specific subjects are confirmed with a counsellor. Raise it at Grade 9 so the answer can shape the subject combination.
Put this in writing to any online school before you enrol, and read the school's own policies rather than a landing page. The four questions worth asking: how live classrooms are moderated and by whom, how a concern about another student is reported and handled, what pastoral support exists and who provides it, and how student data and recordings are stored. The admissions team issues the current policies on request.
Cambridge travels furthest of the six, because IGCSE and A Levels are read by admissions offices in 135+ countries without needing explanation. The American and Australian pathways are built for their own systems and are strongest going into them. CBSE-aligned with NIOS or BOSSE is the right call where India is the likely destination. Choose on destination rather than on reputation.
The CBSE-aligned pathway keeps a child on NCERT textbooks and CBSE-pattern assessment from Grade 1 to Grade 12, which is what makes a posting to Egypt survivable for a family planning to go home. NIOS or BOSSE certify Grades 10 and 12, and the certificate is accepted for CUET, JEE and NEET registration. Examination arrangements from Egypt are settled with a counsellor.
The pathway runs IGCSE across Grades 6 to 10 and AS and A Levels in Grades 11 and 12, with more than seventy IGCSE subjects open at the choosing stage and Cambridge certified teachers throughout. For a household in Egypt the practical appeal is portability: the same qualification is read by universities in 135+ countries, so a posting that ends early does not reset a child's schooling.
Usually, and subject availability is the limit rather than willingness. The counsellor reads the previous school's reports, establishes which subjects ran and how far each one got, and confirms in writing what continues before any payment is taken. Practical subjects are checked against the examination route at the same time, because that is where a mid-course transfer most often comes unstuck.
A Levels run in Grades 11 and 12 with Cambridge certified teachers on the morning batch, which from Egypt means an early start and a finish before mid-morning. The subject combination is confirmed before Grade 11, and the examination route belongs in that same conversation so the subjects chosen are ones your child can actually sit from here.
The syllabus matches; the responsibilities divide differently. An Egyptian campus enters its own pupils for examinations, runs laboratories, provides transport and charges accordingly. A British curriculum online school in Egypt removes the transport and the catchment and hands examination entry back to the family. For a child set on practical sciences, the campus keeps a real advantage worth weighing.
For a family heading to the United States, it is the cleanest of the six. It follows US K-12 Common Core standards under Cognia accreditation and is assessed continuously through the year, which removes the private candidate question entirely. Ask precisely which records are issued at the end of Grade 12 and put them to the district or college your family expects to join first.
Twenty students, taught by two adults. The fee page publishes a 2:20 ratio with an assistant subject teacher working alongside the class teacher during the lesson. The demo class is where you check what the second teacher is actually doing, which is the part no brochure can answer for you.
Two lists, and a family should read both before applying. Annual: one figure per grade covering live classes, learning material, assessments, the platform with its recordings and notes, and co-curricular sessions. Separate: board registration, overseas examination fees on the Indian pathways, Australian pathway attestation, and courier if physical books come to Egypt. Fees are stated as non-refundable.
Most families in Egypt keep Arabic going locally, and the timetable is built to allow it. School finishes in the morning or around midday depending on the grade, leaving a clear run at the hours Arabic tutors and local academies teach. Ask the counsellor which language subjects your child's pathway offers so you know what to arrange outside it.

Four credentials sit behind the school and every one of them is checkable rather than asserted: IAO and Cognia accreditation, Cambridge certification for the IGCSE and A Level pathway, and NIOS or BOSSE for the Indian pathways. Ask the counselling team for the registration numbers and look each one up on the issuing body's own site before any money changes hands.
Nothing local is needed at all. Nursery starts at age 3, admission runs in any month, and a family still sorting out housing or a residence permit can start a three-year-old anyway. Sessions are short and activity led, with an adult nearby through the early weeks and a learning kit sent out for play away from the screen.
It is the least disruptive move on the table, because the textbooks do not change. A child leaving a CBSE school continues on the same NCERT material, with the syllabus mapped and gap topics listed before placement. Live periods are shorter at this stage, with reading, worksheets and projects done away from the screen.
Senior grades sit on the morning batch, starting around 06:30 in winter and 07:30 in summer and done by about 10:00 local. That is an early start and a very long free afternoon, which suits some households and not others, so it is worth testing against your family's mornings before you commit. Cambridge, American, Australian and Indian pathways all run to Grade 12.
Admission follows the posting rather than a September calendar, and postings to Egypt begin in every month of the year. The counsellor maps what the child has already covered, places them and lists the gaps, and recordings cover whatever was taught before the join date. What this avoids is a child sitting out a term while a local place is chased.
Live, in every timetabled period, with a subject teacher present and attendance recorded. The recordings exist behind that for revision and for a day missed. The attendance log matters in Egypt specifically: if anyone asks a family to evidence that a child is in full-time education, a register from live classes reads far better than a list of videos opened.
One batch slot, finishing in the morning or around midday depending on the grade, with the exact length published beforehand. Egyptian summers push most activity indoors and into the evening, and the freed hours tend to follow that pattern rather than going to more screen time. Eye exercises run during classes and blue-light guidance is shared.
A laptop, tablet or smartphone and a stable connection, with headphones and a webcam recommended rather than required, and no paid software beyond a browser and a PDF reader. Outside the main cities, a connection that holds steady for the whole class window is the thing worth testing, and a mobile hotspot makes a sensible backup.
Through the same twenty classmates every day, and through Egypt's club culture in the afternoons. Sporting clubs, cultural centres and community associations run outside school hours in most Egyptian cities and are where children here form friendships anyway. Online clubs, competitions and group projects run alongside, across a student body in 135+ countries.
A separately planned provision rather than an adjustment made to an ordinary class. SEND trained educators cover dyslexia, ADHD, autism and speech, language and sensory processing needs, and it is quoted apart from the annual fee so a family knows the full cost before committing to anything. A report already issued, in Egypt or elsewhere, is read and used rather than repeated.
The class teacher first, then the academic coordinator, then a counsellor. There are no clinical psychologists on staff and none are claimed, so clinical care is arranged locally where it is needed. A child adjusting to a new country usually needs a local routine and time as much as anything a school can offer from a distance.
Attendance for every live period, assignments as they are set and marked, and assessment results as they are recorded, all of it readable on a phone. The question worth asking before enrolling is about the teachers rather than the app: how quickly is submitted work marked, and does a teacher contact a parent directly when something slips. Ask for both answers at the counselling call.
It runs its own published calendar, which will not match the Egyptian one. Expect teaching days during local holidays and breaks when Egyptian schools are open. Ramadan and Eid are handled as planned absences with recordings to catch up. Read the calendar before enrolling rather than after, because the mismatch is more disruptive than most families expect.
Parents do no teaching at any stage. Grades 1 to 5 need an adult available to help with logins and keep a young child on task, and in many households here a grandparent or family member covers that rather than a working parent. From the middle grades the student runs the timetable and the adult role becomes reading the dashboard.
Your position under Egyptian rules comes first, because it decides whether this is viable at all. Then the pathway, the teaching days, the class times in Egypt hours, how the certificate would be used here, and the published fee for the grade. A demo class can be booked in the same call and nothing is charged until you decide.
