The Basics

What Is the Australian Curriculum Primary Years Programme?

The Australian Curriculum Primary Years covers Years 1 to 6, for children aged roughly 6 to 12. It is a full national curriculum built around eight learning areas, moving children from early literacy and numeracy into structured subject learning, research and independent work. At Sunbeam World School the programme is delivered entirely online, taught live by certified subject teachers in classes of twenty with a second teacher on hand. Progress is measured through continuous internal assessment rather than external board exams, and children move on into Middle Years with a recognised record of achievement.

Live Daily Classes

Every subject is taught live by a certified subject teacher. Children see the same faces each day and are known by name, which is what keeps a nine year old participating.

Recorded Lessons on the LMS

Every class is recorded and posted the same day with notes and worksheets. A child who is unwell, travelling or simply needs a second pass is never left behind.

Doubt Solving Built In

An assistant subject teacher works alongside the class teacher at a 2:20 ratio, so questions get answered inside the lesson rather than saved for later.

Parent Dashboard

Attendance, assignments, assessment results and teacher notes in one place. Parents supervise and stay informed. They are not expected to teach.

What Comes Next

A Clear Path From Primary Into Middle Years

Year 6 is the hinge. A child arrives in Middle Years either able to manage several subjects, several teachers and their own deadlines, or not. Everything in this programme is built toward that.

By the end of Year 6, students are reading and writing across all eight learning areas, working with fractions, decimals and data, planning and recording their own investigations, and handing in work without being chased. They move into Australian Curriculum Middle Years on the same platform, with the same routine and many of the same teachers.

Families who change direction are not stuck. Records transfer to our American, Cambridge and CBSE-aligned pathways, or to a school outside Sunbeam World School, and academic transcripts are accepted for admission elsewhere.
