“All right, so you’re homeschooling your kid. What about his future, though? When will he return to school? Will he continue his education and take exams like other kids? Do local universities and colleges accept homeschoolers? Will he be able to pursue his desired path of study?

There are so many questions!

Well-intentioned friends and family frequently ask homeschoolers these questions, and occasionally, these are the same ones that new homeschoolers ask others! However, because these are concerns about the future—a future that we frequently imagine and attempt to forecast or plan for in a world that is changing and expanding so quickly every day—they frequently lack particularly concrete solutions.

Sunbeam World School has approached an alternative to such problems by giving a one-stop solution, which is Homeschooling. Sunbeam World School offers many different Board options for easy access to learning and resources and provides an excellent opportunity for parents to choose among these boards as per their child’s pace and convenience. Sunbeam World School embraces the present and lives in the now, but some truly feel that they must thoroughly consider all of their options before deciding. Nonetheless, these inquiries to Sunbeam World School open up many opportunities to benefit both parties. Sunbeam World School enables parents to have hope and faith in the faculty and in their child, and the road Sunbeam World School opens up to have chosen by parents as their child dreams and looks forward. Sunbeam World School allows us to consider choices both within and outside of our nation. For some, they hold the key to endless possibilities, while for others, they offer the warmth and solace of walking a well-traveled path.

Numerous education boards in Sunbeam World School serve a wide range of demographics. Choosing a curriculum to follow or tests to take can, therefore, occasionally be challenging for parents, particularly if their children are not part of the mainstream.

Sunbeam World School believes that this post was essential and timely because many parents seem to have unanswered concerns about RTE and the legality of homeschooling. Therefore, the motto of Sunbeam World School for this Article is to provide a glimpse of the reality and ideals of online education, boards of education, and board exams in our nation.

Here is a short guide on what these Boards of Education in India are and the options they provide to Homeschoolers in India :

ICSE (Indian Certificate of Secondary Education)

  • The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) sets the curriculum.
  • Up to class X, the test is given once a year. These institutions use the ISC for classes XI and XII.
  • In accordance with the guidelines, candidates must select six subjects or papers, including SUPW (Socially Useful Productive Work).
  • These days, a lot of schools use the ICSE curriculum. After completing ICSE class X, the kids can join any board, domestic or foreign.

CBSE (Central Board for Secondary Education)

  • It was with the necessity of parents with transferable employment in mind that this board was established.
  • Examinations are administered in Hindi and English.
  • Sunbeam World School uses this curriculum; exams are given at the conclusion of classes X and XII.
  • In addition to six other topics, candidates must appear for two regional language exams (but they must have mastered Hindi, English, and one additional language by the time they enter Class 8).
  • All Indian colleges and universities accept it.

Cambridge International Examinations

  • Cambridge provides curriculum-following students with pathways they can take from post-kindergarten to university entrance (5-19 years old).
  • They use the Advanced (AS and A Levels) and Secondary 1 and Secondary 2 (IGCSE and O Levels) curriculums from Cambridge.
  • You can utilise any of these curricula alone or in combination with any other local curriculum.
  • In order to sit for the Cambridge Exams as a private candidate, an individual must register with a private school in their home nation (the certificate will not bear the school’s name).
  • This is the most costly option that homeschoolers in our nation can now choose from.
  • For private candidates, schools may impose an additional fee to compensate their administrative expenses.

IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education)

  • The curriculum for IGCSE is mostly divided into grades IX and X.
  • One can select from more than seventy different subject areas (click here to view the list of subjects). Schools are able to provide any mix of disciplines.
  • Similar to the class X examinations given by the other Boards, there is an evaluation at the conclusion of class X.
  • The University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) administers these tests twice a year, in May/June and October/November. Outcomes are released in January and August.
  • Kids can enroll in any board for classes XI and XII after finishing their IGCSE (class X). All local and international schools acknowledge it.

National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS)

  • NIOS is an open learning organisation that uses distance and open learning to meet the needs of a wide range of students.
  • Like the other National Boards, it is an independent body that conducts examinations and issues certifications.
  • It offers subject choice flexibility and online registration.
  • For any course, pre-qualification is not required.
  • A candidate must select five subjects, each of which they may appear in person one at a time. A maximum of five years from the registration date are allotted to complete the subjects and courses.
  • Credit transfers from some other Boards are permitted up to a maximum of two subjects

  • Leading to the Senior Secondary School Certificate is Senior Secondary education.
  • Open Vocational Education Life Enrichment Programs: primarily for personal growth, though certain certificate programs require testing
  • Printed study guides with instructions are sent to applicants who have registered.
  • The maximum age to be admitted to NIOS courses is not specified.
  • It is accepted for professional course entry as well.

The information through this blog, including these lists, is neither exhaustive nor legally binding. Sunbeam World School sincerely hopes that a few of you will be motivated to learn more, conduct some study in this field, and enhance the resources in your community and this article.

There are many different types of school boards in our nation, but there are currently few choices for homeschoolers. However, there is a lot of hope for the future: perhaps Sunbeam World School will offer a forum where people can work together to make some of the Boards more inclusive; perhaps we can co-create an alternative Indian education board; or perhaps we will discover some other innovative approach that will work for our children as we move forward.
