Story Summary 

A boy once became bored while keeping an eye on the village animals. He desired to add excitement to the situation. He shouted that he had spotted a wolf pursuing the sheep. The entire hamlet rushed to chase the wolf away. But they didn’t spot a wolf. The villagers were not amused, but the boy was. They advised him not to repeat the action. He pulled this stunt again shortly after. When the townspeople ran back, they discovered that he was lying. The youngster actually witnesses a wolf skulking among the sheep later that day.

He leaped to his feet and yelled for assistance. However, since they believed he was still making jokes, nobody showed up this time. The locals searched for the boy around sunset. He hadn’t brought their livestock back. They discovered him in tears. He informed them that the flock had vanished and that there was, in fact, a wolf. An elderly guy came to console him, telling him that even if a liar is being truthful, no one will trust them. 

Moral— Lying undermines confidence.

2. The Golden Touch

Story Summary

For a Satyr, the Greek king Midas performed a good deed. This made the deity of wine, Dionysus, grant him a desire. Midas prayed that everything he came into contact with would turn to gold. Midas was unmoved by Dionysus’s warning not to do so. With great excitement, Midas began to touch everything and turn it into gold. He was soon hungry. But even his meals turned to gold, so he was unable to consume anything. When his cherished daughter noticed him in anguish, she rushed to give him a hug. But she also resorted to gold. It dawned on him then that the golden touch was not a boon. 

Moral— Greed brings about one’s demise.

3. The Grapes and the Fox

Story Summary 

The Grapes and the Fox Once, a ravenous fox, searched everywhere for food. He could not locate anything before he happened upon a farmer’s wall. He noticed large, luscious, purple grapes. To get to the grapes, he sprang as high as he could. He failed no matter how many times he tried. He eventually gave trying and returned home, reasoning that the grapes must have been sour. 

Moral— Don’t resent what you can’t have; nothing worthwhile comes easily.
